Consultants and people who have had a long career in the performing arts and cultural sector seem to go hand in hand. while that may seem on one hand faint praise, on the other it recognizes that increasingly important to organisations these days is not how to prepare a trial balance or fill out a risk assessment form - but rather a need to negotiate complex structures, multiple stakeholders and markets and primarily deal with the personality of people and product in an increasingly complex social or economic arena.

The Cultural sector teaches you a few things ;

  • keeping people at the core of your activity

  • you have to show respect for your team and your patrons

  • not everything is simple

  • focus on what you do best

  • not everyone wants to participate in the same way

  • getting the perceived value or benefit of your activity right
